Welcome back to Term 4 and what looks to be an incredibly busy term. We have had a great start … Congratulations to Mr Jones and Carly on the birth of their son, Markus, during the school holidays. We look forward to hearing all about his first few weeks when Mr Jones returns from parental leave in Week 4.
Congratulations to Miss Polley. The Nova 919 team came to Flagstaff Hill R-7 School this week to present her with the ‘Teacher of the Year’ award for kindness. Over 2000 nominations were received! Laura’s was written by a parent in her class and a panel including the Minister for Education chose her as the recipient. Laura received a $1000 prize and some flowers. As part of the award, the school also received a $1000 prize.

Student Free Day
This Friday (20th October) is our last Student Free Day for 2017. Teachers will be taking part in Professional Development training in Digital Technologies. We will also be extracting and analysing student data from 2017 to help us plan how to continue to improve our results further in 2018.
Hats As per our commitment as a SunSmart school, hats are now worn until 30th April 2018 so please ensure that your child has a named school hat available everyday.
20 Year Time Capsule Opening On Friday 27th October we will be opening the time capsule which was prepared twenty years ago. This is a ticketed event. On this day we will be celebrating with past Principals and teachers, as well as local community members. Due to space restrictions, some students will attend the opening on the day, and some will watch the presentation in the assembly in week 3.
End of Year Concert On Tuesday 28 November we have our end of year concert. As our school continues to grow, this year we are trialing splitting into 3 concerts.
R – Y1 Concert 5.30 pm – 6.15 pm Y2 – Y4 Concert including Oshc 6.30 pm – 7.15 pm Y5 – Y7 Concert 7.30 pm – 8.15 pm

Non-DECD Service Providers at Flagstaff Hill R-7 School – 2018 and beyond
At Flagstaff Hill we have always tried our best to support the provision of services to children with special requirements wherever possible. These privately or NDIS funded services have included tutoring, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Psychologists etc. This involves offering a suitable space to meet with the child as well as trying to find a time which suits the provider and minimises the amount of instruction time missed during the appointment.
A revised DECD policy requires our school to meet very strict guidelines in approving requests for 2018 and beyond. A letter will be sent home with students who currently use non-DECD service providers at Flagstaff Hill in the coming weeks outlining the new requirements.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me via the office or firstname.lastname@example.org

Book Club Co-ordinator
This will be my last term as co-ordinator for the Scholastic Book Club so we need a new volunteer. It requires a couple of hours once or twice per term to order and check payments and another hour or so to receive and distribute the orders.
For anyone interested please leave your name and contact number with the Front Office and I will contact you.
